Why You Need to Market Your Business on Social Media

If you are part of my generation, "Why should you market your business on social media?" shouldn't even be a question. But if you grew up before the dot com may need a little convincing. I personally believe that no matter what you sell, you NEED to be active on social media if you want to have a successful business. In today's world, traditional advertising is not going to get you anywhere unless if you are already a household name and have a gigantic budget. Social media is the way to go and here is why:

1. It Is The Most Affordable Way To Brand Your Business

The beauty of social media marketing is that most of it is FREE. It make take a few months of dedication of working on your profile, gaining followers and building your engagement. But if you apply the right tactics, overtime you will see an increase in awareness of your product and interest in your product or services. If you choose to advertise on social media platforms- it is very cost effective. For example, the average cost per click on Google Adwords is $1-2 depending on the keyword. I personally have seen some keywords cost $20+ per click. But if you run an ad campaign on Facebook, you can pay about $.12 per click. On top of that, unlike Google Adwords, and traditional media- you can reach hundreds to thousands of people on Facebook just for $5. The return on investment is incredible and well worth your efforts.

2. It Improves Your Company's Search Engine Rankings

Everyone knows that you need to have a website that is easily found on Google. But with all of the competition, how will you stand out from the crowd? By being active on social media, people start noticing your brand which increases your website visits and your ranking on the search engine sites. Many times, social profiles get more hits than actual webpages. Which is why Google's new algorithm now factors in social signals as an indicator in search rankings. It looks to different social signals such as tweets, shares, likes, engagements, and so on. You can't forget that social media channels are now search engines as well. People search the answers to their questions on Pinterest, Youtube, and Instagram everyday. Will they find your company if they do a quick search?

3. Makes You Accessible To New Customers & Familiar To Existing Customers

In todays world, when someone is interested in a certain product- they go online. They need more than just a simple website. People research reviews of products/services, the popularity of a company, and the reputation the brand. If they cannot find this information due to the lack of a social media presence- they will simply move on to find a company that will be easier to trust. Social media marketing is your brand's voice and content. It simultaneously makes you easier and accessible to new customers, while making you familiar and recognizable for existing customers. Brands who have an effecitve social media strategy enjoy a higher loyalty rate from their customers (this was proven by a study done by Texas Tech University). For this reason, social media marketing has become a key part of most marketing campaigns for multi-million dollar companies.

Anyone can take advantage of the benefits that social media marketing provides, no matter what kind of company you run. The key is not just having a social media presence, it's about using it to your advantage. The advice that I provided in this post is just the tip of the iceberg.
